Tips:
*Check tide charts and try and go during an outgoing or low tide for maximum surface area.
*Look for triangular shapes with a matte grey gumline and glossy grey base. Once your eye is trained for what to look for it becomes much easier!
*Be prepared to encounter a lot of fugazis but often times they are just another kind of fossil and still worth keeping! Look out for sea glass (rare), ray’s teeth, turtle scutes, and shark’s vertebrae while you’re looking for 🦈 🦷
*The wash zone is usually the freshest opportunity for teeth so look for the areas with piles of tiny shells closer to the shore and they tend to be on top of the piles!
*My MIL swore by building drip castles at the shoreline for finding teeth.
*Look often and it helps if you have an obsessive brain and enjoy the thrill of the hunt!
